We had a full, but fun weekend!  On Friday night we had our friends, Raymond and Meghan, over for our Friday night tradition pizza dinner.  Then while Derek and Raymond discussed theology in the living room Meghan and I got busy baking almond spritz cookies in the kitchen.  The ladies from our Sunday School class had an event with a cookie exchange on Saturday night, so these were the cookies I brought.

Derek has been training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under the world champion Helio Soneca at a local gym here in Louisville.  This Saturday he competed in his first tournament in Taylorsville, KY.  He competed in the gi (pronounced “gee”) division and the no gi division.  I was only able to be there for his gi competition because I had to get back to Louisville for my cookie exchange event.  But, Derek ended up wining second place in the no gi division!  Go, Derek!

On Sunday, Derek had the opportunity to preach at a local church across the river in Indiana.  He applied to do pulpit supply through the seminary.  If a church is without a pastor to preach on any given Sunday they can find a student through the seminary to come and preach.  Derek got a call this week to preach!  It is a great way for him to continue developing his preaching skills while he is in seminary.
